22% of Stars Contain a Habitable Zone Planet! Fucking ‘A’ That’s Cool!

So I have long been a lay student of astronomy and cosmology. I don’t know a lot so don’t quiz me, but one of the most exciting things I have seen in my life time that blows my mind is Planet discovery.

When I was a boy we didn’t even know if Exoplanets even existed.

Then in 1995 when I began my adult life the first one was discovered.

Now as I mature we have discovered thousands of them. With new averages calculated we estimate that there are 2.5 planets for every start we can observe.

Now comes this article about Earth sized Goldilocks zone planets. We are witnessing the proliferation of potentially habitable planets across the Galaxy.

22% percent of all the stars that Kepler is looking at contain a Planet that fits our current definition of potentially life sustaining worlds!

The implications are astounding to me. I have long been of the opinion that we will discover the Universe is filled with planets.

Now I’m going to take a stab here and say that I believe we will discover that not only are there planets everywhere but that the universe is likely infested life.

Our own planet is fucking covered in it. Even the sea floor and volcanic vents are covered in extremophiles making a living.

Time will only tell!

  1. Hello Friend! I became curious about your recent banters, and followed your link. So, this article tells that life is abundant (and not just on earth). More abundant than was ever previously considered. Just yesterday I heard of the first humans who are headed to Mars. People are going to Mars! (In our lifetimes, nevertheless.) Thanks for the brain fodder. Off to read your other stuff.

    • Hi Ursula… Thanks for dropping me a line. I always love hearing from you. Yea the our life time thing is amazing. Check out the article about Ray Kurzweil I just posted after your comment. Do you know him? You should read his book the singularity. it is amazing and the tech that is coming online is totally mind blowing.

I’ll send you an email soon with some catch up on life the universe and everything that is more private than my comments section.

      be well sister!
